How to import a catalogue
For a good browsing of the catalog in PFN mode the PFN syntax
is supposed to be URL like, so it is prefix with the string "pfn://" followed
by the hostname and the path of the file. e.g. pfn://lxplus6.cern.ch/Grid/mcproduction/ev1000.
This is just a temporary assumption until a definitive one is fixed. This
is not a compulsory requirement and if the PFN is just a string the file
is suppose to be located on the local machine.
A strong control on the input is missed. This means a wrong search query make the browser to crash.
Each import is committed, this mean the catalogue in use is committed with the new entries.
Your system should run Red Hat 7.3 and has the version 3.2 of
gcc compiler and the AFS system.
As first step, install the last release of POOL framework with these packages:
AttributeList, POOLCore, FileCatalog, XMLCatalog, MySQLCatalog, EDGCatalog, PyFileCatalog and FCBrowser.
The FCBrowser.py executable is located in .../POOL_x_y_z/src/FCBrowser/scripts and .../POOL_x_y_z /rh73_gcc32/bin. Before running the catalogue is suggested to read the previous paragraph, Problems and Restrictions.
Through the .FCBrc configuration file located in the home directory it is possible to specify three parameters:
To select a catalog from the File menu select Catalogue->Set. Select the catalogue or type the path to a new catalogue. Tree catalogues of example are included.
Into the Search text bar insert the query on the metadata attribute. Remember that the syntax is SQL like. For example this query, "jobid like %mc%", gives as result all the files which jobid attribute value contains the string 'mc'.
Into the Filter text bar insert the filter string. For the filter
use the wild card character, as you would do for any UNIX command; e.g.
"per*te?" would select all the logical file names that start with "per"
and end with "te" followed by any single Character.
This functionality is not implemented for the PFN mode.
From the left subwindow select the tab LFN or PFN for the mode you want.
To see the PFNs associated to a LFN select the LFN from the list on the left; on the right the PFNs associated to it are showed. Clicking on the PFN a new frame will be opened showing all the attribute associated to the file.
Or right click on the LFN to see a menu by wich is possible to see the PFNs or the LFNs associated to it
Reload the catalogue and view the metadata schema
From the toolbar click the reload button.
From the toolbar click the MetaSchema button.
