An extension for Zoltan Torzsok as technical student working in the area of simulation framework has been requested.
There will be a new technical student working in the CORAL/COOL area starting February or March next year.

Python 2.5 on the slots. Piort has installed the slot (Stefan)
A nightly slot has been prepared and will be enabled tonight.
This exercise has unveiled a problem in the installation of Python 2.5
to do with the shareable library and it will be redone soon.
LCG comprehensive review preparation
The list of speakers for the AA session of the LCG comprehensive
review scheduled for Monday 19 November was finalized. The list is as
follows:
Overview (40') - Pere Mato
Simulation & Generators (30') - Witek Pokorski
Core Libraries and Services (30') - Fons Rademakers
Persistency Framework Projects (30') - Andrea Valassi
Software Process and Infrastructure (20') - Stefan Roiser
The full agenda has been made available. Last year final report is also available.
Releases status
ROOT version 5.17/04 was released yesterday
Pere noticed that it has not been announced to the LCG-AA mailing list. Rene will announce it as soon as possible.
Fons reminded us that it is important to start using this
release as a main validation test for the production release scheduled
in December.
This is the first release using SVN as code repository. Is is
planned that by the end of October the mirroring of SVN to CVS will be
stopped to allow major changes such as package and files renaming to
take place. Fons also mentioned that Alice is moving to SVN today.
Fons will be tagging a new patch release for 5.14/00 with the latest fixes today.
New ways of handling 32bit floats with absolute or relatve
precision has been introduced in this new release. Also a new Float16
data type has been introduced. Rene will present these new developments
in the next AA meeting.
Status of configuration LCG_53d
The release was done
A few incidents were reported by Stefan:
It was found that Relax had to be
rebuild due to the change of CLHEP.
The COOL installation was incomplete (missing includes) and had to be fixed today.
The Doxygen documentation installation was also buggy. This need to be improved with better
automation.
Status of configuration LCG_54
POOL needs to be adapted to the new version of
ROOT. The time scale is one week or two. If the changes are simple
then we can expect them to be done quickly.
There was the question about a possible revision of version
of the external packages. Some of them are quite old. Pere was of the
opinion that we should do on demand only.
The projects are encouraged to make the 'dev' slot in the nightlies fully working.
Experiments feedback
LHCb
They have releases all software stack based on LCG 53c. They
are starting a new development cycle. When new versions wil be
available they will be getting them.
Marco asked about the removal of SEAL pluging manager. The
milestone was scheduled by end of November but this is not realistic
taking into account the available developers. Zsolt will be starting with this basically right now. The idea is to move the milestone to
end of March 2008. Pere
would like to reduce the range and the scope of the changes and do only
the minimal that is required. The changes towards the experimenst at
not completely transparent and need to be synchronized carefully. ATLAS
may have bigger problem and needs to be studied carefully.
CMS
Rene is following the memory problems that CMS have as a
consequence of the large number of branches they are declaring in ROOT
trees and the fact that they have several input and output files open
concurrently in some data processing workflow. They are in a very
active campaign to get down below 2 GB the memory demands of the
program.
ATLAS
Dirk reported about the difficulties that ATLAS are having to
keep in sync the addresses of conditions data stored in COOL and the
POOL files containing the actual data. Discussions are ongoing to
understand how to alleviate the problem.
Alice
Nothing special. They are migrating to SVN right now. They
are also campaigning to reduce the virtual memory usage for 64bit
architecture.

AoB
Dirk announced the WLCG Service Reliability Workshop, 26-30
November 2007. It will include some tutorials on how to write DB
applications and an update of the 3D services.
Dirk reported that have been a problem with the
Oracle client 10.2.01 if the server runs for longer 284 days. This
has affected some LCG service. Grid deployment should be using a more
recent version of the client. IT/DES should be informed when new
versions of the client libraries are made available. We count on Oliver
to
communicate the versions changes.
Pere communicated the compilation flags used by the AA and experiments software to the WLCG benchmark people.
